There are widespread allegations that canvassers for the anti-casino petition misrepresented the petition’s purpose. Videos shared online support those allegations, as do first-person comments of people who encountered one or more of the canvassers. Also, many canvassers were reported to be in vehicles with out-of-state license plates, even though state law requires that canvassers be Arkansas residents.

The anti-casino group, Local Voters in Charge, is a small group that has been fighting against the casino since 2018, using various names for their organization. Previous petitions from the group under the names Fair Play For Arkansas (in 2020) and Fair Play For Arkansas – 2022 (in 2022) failed to garner enough signatures. The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma has financed this petition drive just as they did the petition drive in 2022.

More residents in Pope County now favor the casino than oppose it.
